“We create workplaces where ambitious people can thrive”

Projects is set to open its first Tunbridge Wells workspace this September. We caught up with the team behind the fast-growing flexible office brand to discover why beautifully designed spaces, building strong business communities and relevant networking are at the heart of everything they do…

Let’s start by telling us a little about the history and ethos behind Projects…

Projects was founded on a simple belief: work should be about more than simply having somewhere to sit. A workspace should inspire people, encourage collaboration and help businesses thrive.

When we opened our first location in Brighton in 2018, we wanted to create somewhere that felt less like a traditional office and more like a place people genuinely wanted to spend their day. That idea has grown into what we now call the home for better business.

What sets Projects apart from other flexible workspaces?

We’ve been a certified B Corp business for three years. For us, ‘better’ isn’t just about beautifully designed buildings – although design is central to who we are. It’s about creating workplaces where ambitious people can thrive.

Our members collaborate, support one another and often do business together. We believe the spaces we work in have a huge influence on how we think, feel and perform, so every Projects building is designed with real care and intention.

Our team play a huge part. They take care to get to know our members and understand how we can best support them. We regularly hear that’s one of the main reasons people choose to stay with us.

You already have two locations in Brighton. Tell us about them.

Brighton was the perfect place to start because it’s home to so many ambitious and independent businesses.

Our first workspace opened in 2018 in a beautifully restored Grade II-listed townhouse in The Lanes. Four years later we expanded into Nile House, a much larger five-storey workspace with coworking areas, private offices, meeting rooms, a café, rooftop terrace and our event space, The Globe.

Although they’re very different buildings, they share the same philosophy of exceptional design, genuine hospitality and creating a community where businesses can grow. Today we’re proud to support more than 3,000 members across Brighton.

Who typically works at Projects?

Our community is incredibly diverse. On any given day you’ll find freelancers, creative agencies, solicitors, architects, start-ups and established businesses all working under one roof.

What connects them isn’t their profession but their mindset. They’re ambitious, passionate about what they do and value working in an environment that reflects the quality of their business. That diversity often leads to conversations, collaborations and long-term partnerships.

Why was Tunbridge Wells the right place for your next location?

Tunbridge Wells shares many of the qualities we love about Brighton. It’s home to thriving independent businesses, growing companies and ambitious people. We’re excited to become part of that community and create a space where people can do their best work.

What can members expect from the
new workspace?

We’re opening on Crescent Road this September, creating a flexible workspace for freelancers, growing businesses and larger organisations alike.

Members will have access to coworking areas, dedicated desks, private offices for teams of up to 100 people, fully equipped meeting rooms and an on-site stretch studio offering yoga and Pilates.

Alongside the workspace itself, we’ll host a year-round programme of networking events, workshops and community activities because we believe great workplaces are defined as much by the people you meet as the desk you sit at.

What impact do you hope Projects will have on Tunbridge Wells?

In Brighton, we’ve seen first-hand what happens when ambitious people share a workspace. New ideas are sparked over coffee, partnerships are formed and businesses support one another through every stage of their journey. We’ve been lucky enough to see members grow from one or two-person start-ups into teams of more than 20 people, and there’s nothing more rewarding than watching that happen.

Tunbridge Wells already has a thriving business community. We hope Projects becomes a place that strengthens those connections, creates new opportunities and plays a small part in the town’s continued success.
