The Employment Law clock is ticking – is your business ready?

The pace of change in the workplace is accelerating. Just as businesses begin to get to grips with one challenge, another seems to be waiting around the corner and for UK employers, the next major challenge is already underway.

Significant changes to employment law are coming, bringing new responsibilities, greater employee protections and potentially serious consequences for businesses that fail to prepare. The good news? There is still time to get ready. The bad news? That window is getting smaller.

The Employment Rights Act represents one of the most significant periods of employment law reform in recent years. Some changes are already beginning to take effect, while further reforms are scheduled throughout 2026 and into 2027.

Employers will need to prepare for strengthened responsibilities around preventing workplace sexual harassment, including increased expectations to protect employees and manage risks proactively. Other changes will affect areas including employment tribunal time limits, unfair dismissal, flexible working, pregnancy protections, fire and rehire practices and zero-hours arrangements.

For businesses, this is about far more than simply updating an employee handbook.

Employment contracts, workplace policies, recruitment practices and management procedures may all need reviewing. Crucially, managers and business leaders need to understand how the changes will affect the decisions they make every day.

The most successful organisations will not wait until legislation takes effect or an employment issue lands on their desk. They will use the time available now to identify potential risks and put the right foundations in place.

At Brightstar People, we understand that keeping up with employment legislation can feel daunting, particularly for growing businesses already managing countless competing priorities.

Our role is to make it simpler. From HR audits and policy reviews to practical employment advice and ongoing support, we help businesses understand what is changing, what they need to do and how to prepare with confidence.

The clock is ticking. But there is still time to act.

Brightstar People is here to help your business get ready.
