Law firm strengthens litigation team and joins fight against cancer

Thackray Williams has bolstered its litigation team with the arrival of solicitor Rachel McGee and become a founding supporter firm of new initiative Law Beats Cancer.

Rachel McGee has previously worked with a special situations legal and professional services firm and a national law firm with a strong reputation for fighting injustice.

After a first degree in Philosophy and Politics from the University of Liverpool, Rachel gained her Graduate Diploma in Law to start her legal career with solicitors in London.

Joining a national firm that champions the rights of individuals provided a stepping stone to take her onto a special situations firm that helps clients navigate high-stakes threats, where she concentrated on commercial dispute resolution, supporting clients with complex contentious matters.

“We’re delighted that Rachel has joined Thackray Williams (TW). Her experience ideally positions her to help our clients who find themselves in challenging situations to mitigate risk and exploit opportunities,” comments Partner David Hacker, Head of the Dispute Resolution Department.

“Rachel also has the personal attributes that make her a natural fit for Thackray Williams: warm and friendly, with great attention to detail and motivated to empower clients by giving them legal expertise in language they can understand so they can make informed decisions,” he adds.

Commenting on her appointment Rachel says: “I’m delighted to have joined Thackray Williams. I was drawn to the opportunity to work on a broad range of litigation matters whilst being part of a firm that combines practical legal expertise with a warm, approachable culture. I’m looking forward to contributing to the Dispute Resolution team’s work and helping clients resolve challenging disputes.”

In other TW news, it is now supporting Law Beats Cancer. This is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the legal community and Cancer Research UK to help fund life-saving research and make a lasting difference for people affected by the disease.

The movement has already raised more than £220,000, with a calendar of networking, challenges and events planned for participating solicitors, barristers and in-house legal teams across the country to support groundbreaking research, accelerate progress and save lives.

“At Thackray Williams we have a commitment to making meaningful impact that extends far beyond the legal advice that we provide. Law Beats Cancer aligns with our aim to make a positive difference, and we’re delighted to lend our support to help fund the crucial research that can improve the lives of individuals and their loved ones who are diagnosed with cancer,” says Co-Managing Partner Vikki Herbert.

Latest figures from Cancer Research UK show that nearly one in two people will get cancer in their lifetime. More than eight out of 10 of them in the UK who receive cancer drugs will be given one developed by or with Cancer Research UK.

However, due to a lack of funding, the charity is currently forced to turn down world-class, promising research projects. Law Beats Cancer was specifically established to help close that funding gap to allow more life-saving cancer research to take place.
